Even as rare as they are, they aren't as rare as they used to be and as more people get their armor, there will be less people that need to get their armor. The prices may never and probably will never drop to where they will before, but there will most definately be an eventual decline in prices over time that will likely settle below what it is now. As far as gem salvages go, they may be rare from collector items, but they aren't hard to get from weapons like Jeweled Daggers ("Measure for Measure" ftw!). I also have a feeling that there are a lot more items that salvage into jewels than are currently known.

@ MMSDome
I haven't tried, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they do salvage into some sort of rare jewel.

I'm going to assume that you meant ambers/jades aren't as accessable as rubies/saphires.

Also this may be true that the actual drop rates are rare, but you can salvage them from multiple things even if you were to only get it from a small percentage it is possible. Most people have 8-9 characters by now so figure 3 gems per char, if you really want to get them this way. True they will probably be the third or second rarest crafting material in the game but this is the same thing that we have seen with factions. People in the first few weeks don't care about how much their paying for the materials thus the price is unstable. Their price will probably eventually settle around 2.5-4k. If you can't see this happening I'm sure you never thought 4k+ amber would be below 1k now.

I think I was extremely lucky yesterday, I bought 2 diamonds from the rare material trader for 3.7k each. At first I wasn't sure if I should buy them but I figured, meh why not.

Other than that, I havnt seen any diamonds from a salvage or drop.

i've yet to see a diamond drop. I wonder if they'll be more rare than rubies/sapphires. It's my new item to collect =) but they sell out so damn fast at the traders

It still seems pretty rare to even receive a dagger, geode or ember heart drop these days. I often just end up w/ a load of dust. Been able to sucessfully salvage about 3 or 4 rubies so far. Suppose that's better than the drop rates I had in uw/fow though.. collected about 20 ea over 18 months which probably was about 4 gems every month when I used to frequest those areas.

I don't think the price will hold given that only few gems are required for the armor (vs 105 ectos for fow) and that there are so many other armors to choose from for each class. But then demand for fow is probably almost nothing compared to vabbian. That's why I'm selling off my stacks of gems .. so I can fund my silly obsession of collecting diamonds instead lol

So far, I've found a Saphire in a Geode and a Ruby in a Ruby Djinn Essence. Here's to falling prices

I'm a proud owner of 4 sapphires and 1 ruby, all buy 1 of the sapphires were found in FoW and UW. The remaining one dropped in the Undercity by an Am Fah Healer :/

I salvaged a good amount of djinn essences, but never got one... so at this rate, I might as well spend a bit more and buy FoW for my mesmer instead of Vabbian dress.

I have salvaged SEVERAL essences and Daggers and not gotten anything but regular crafting materials.

My GUILDIE (As seen above!) Is a LUCKY MUTHER and has salvaged 2 gems!

Prospero! Teach me the magic!

anyone know if the water djinn essences yield any gemstones? I've got nothing but dust so far. No luck for me w/ geodes either.

I'd really love to get a diamond from a diamond djinn
